The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that the Springfield Storm will begin play in Springfield MA next season under the ownership of ABA team owner Michael Otero.
“I’m excited to bring a new ABA team to Springfield,” stated Otero. “This is my home town where I grew up and played basketball since I was 6 years old at all levels. I look forward to coming into the 2026 season and having some great matchups with some of the ABA’s strongest teams.”
“Mike has wanted to have his team in Springfield for several years,” added ABA CEO Joe Newman. “Unfortunately, the market wasn’t available. We are very pleased that it is now and know that Mike will be very successful there. The Northeast Region of the ABA has some very strong teams including the Buffalo eXtreme, Binghamton Bulldogs, Syracuse Monarchs, New England Lightning and Long Island Strong Arm Ballers, all ABA ranked teams. The Storm should do well.”
